Currently I am in search of finding an art room "home".
I may be just the right fit for your teaching team!
Thank you in advance for your consideration.

What the students have to say...
Here you can read candid comments from my students at Byron Nelson High. At the end of my student teaching experience, they created videos telling principals why I should be hired in their school. This is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. I will truly miss these students as I move on to pursue my career.
"I'm an Art I student of Mrs. Richards and I think she'd be good for this job because she's really helped me explore my art career and well she's made it easier for me to express myself in my art...and I just gained a lot more interest in it."
- Logan Art I "I just want to tell you how she's a great teacher! I love the way she communicated with us and I understood everything she taught. It makes me want to persue art just even more than what I wanted to. I will really miss her and when she leaves it will be really sad and I hope she gets to come back and be one of my teachers for my senior year, it will just make my year." -Skylar Art I "She does a great job in getting people who aren't really interested in art to take an interest in what they are doing and do their work to the best of their ability." - Reed Art I "She makes sure everyone is on task so they get their work done in a timely fashion." -Michael Art I |
"I think you should hire Mrs. Richards because she is a really good teacher. When she first comes in she does make a lot of changes and you are kinda like "UGH! these changes!".... but then as you go along you see these changes are for the better and you get a lot better in art and you grow. She encourages you to face challenges, try new things and to do your best even if it doesn't come out the way you want. You know, she never shoots you down and says like "that's really bad". She always encourages you so you should pick her. She's really good. We want her to come back, we love her here at Byron Nelson!"
-Shania Art II/3D "We think that Mrs. Richards should be a teacher at your school because when to come in she is really nice. She always has a smile and even if she knows your just in there for a credit, she makes sure that you really at least learn something new...so she's a really down to earth teacher." -Ashley Art I |
(Victoria) "We really think you should hire Mrs. Richards because she is always looking forward to doing something better in her class and she is really nice and looking forward to helping you in every way." (Lindsay) "To add to the fact that she is nice she if very efficient in her work ethic. I like all of her lessons personally, like I'm a teenager so that's pretty positive right there! She always puts herself out there and she has rules she doesn't take crap from us you know (laughs). She's just awesome." (Victoria) "We love her!" (Lindsay) "Definately hire her."
-Victoria and Lindsay Art II/3D (Hunter) "Mrs. Richards was really awesome to have here. She taught us a lot um, we had a lot of fun with her when we did the printing. She was really hands on and helped us out a lot." (Nate) "I really feel like when a teacher connects with you, you get a lot more work done. When you don't have like teachers that connect with you a lot you get really frustrated with them and stuff like that but she really knows how to connect with students and help get their work done. She makes it fun. We actually had a good time when she was here." (Hunter) "...and she put up with him so I give her props!." (Nate) "Ya!" (Together) "You should hire Mrs. Richards!" - Hunter and Nathan Art I |
Encouraging words from those I consider to be wise....
"In fact, in my sixteen years of teaching I have never experienced any student teacher who was better prepared and who worked harder than Jillian. She maintained a level of efficiency that was fueled by her obvious work ethic and her professional concern for her students' progress." - -Debbie Caillet (excerpt from letter of recommendation)
"She showed great creative confidence as an artist, problem solver and communicator. Needless to say, this gained her the admiration of the entire faculty." "I have found Jillian to be honest and straightforward in her approach to her work, business and family."
-Dr. Richard Davis (excerpt from letter of recommendation)
"As a teacher with twenty-five years' experience in K-12 art, balancing 2D and 3D curriculum, I have found it is rare to meet a teacher out of college who is able to instruct at the high school level (2D and 3D) effectively. Mrs. Richards is that person!"
-Marcia Baggs (excerpt from letter of recommendation)

Professional Development: Where I have been and where I would like to go.
In the fall of 2011, I was selected to represent the University of North Texas at the 50th anniversary of the Texas Art Education Association conference. A select group of pre-service teachers were chosen to present and discuss their experiences in the elementary classroom adding what we thought we could do to improve the space for both the teacher and the students. I very much enjoyed this experience and plan to present on other education related topics in the future.
As a community service effort, I donated my artistic services to paint a mural for the Lake Dallas Middle School girls weight room. I organized a school-wide contest to create a drawing for the space, students submitted their drawings to the current art teacher and the coaching staff selected the winner. I then painted the mural according to the drawings of the winning student.
I have created a texture book for us in the classroom. I hope to develope the concept more and have it published in the future.

- Committee member in Multi-Age Classroom development committee at Stewart's Creek Elementary. We worked towards creating a classroom environment based on age as opposed to grade levels.
